Since opening its doors in Appomattox, Virginia, over 50 years ago, J.E. Jamerson & Sons has become one of Central Virginia's most successful general contractors. But instead of talking about our longevity and our success, we like to point to the feeling of family that still pervades everything we do.

"JEJ," as it's often called within the company, was founded by J.E. "Dutch" Jamerson in 1946. "Dutch" was joined in the business by his sons Bob and Bill. Bill, who eventually came to run the company himself, was then joined by his own son, Phillip. Today you'll find Phillip and Bill, who "retired" back in 1995 but is still deeply engaged in the company, personally involved in every project that JEJ does.

It's no exaggeration to say that the family feeling extends to Jamerson employees as well. Of our 70 employees, over 75% have been with the company for more than 10 years. It's a remarkable figure, and we think it speaks to the commitment we make to our employees--and the commitment they make to our business and our clients.

JEJ works on projects of every size and scope. We've built large and
complicated buildings like the First Colony Life Insurance building in
Lynchburg, the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg, and
the Governor's School of Technology. We've also done numerous smaller
projects from convenience stores to churches and private residences. We
acquire projects through both direct negotiation and the competitive bidding
process. But JEJ is more than just a builder: we bring our years of
experience to bear on design-build projects, design-assist projects, and
renovations as well. And there's one thing we've noticed over the years: our
work is as important to someone building a small shop as it is to someone
building a giant office building. That's why we treat every job with equal care.

Devoting our personal attention to every project is something we take great pride in at JEJ. It means you get three things with every project:

  • commitment: integrity, dependability, and workmanship
    in everything we do.
  • competitive cost: a quest to provide you with value,
as if every project were our own.
  • experience: the benefit of over 50 years in the business.

J.E. Jamerson also believes in the importance of community involvement. We're deeply involved in organizations we feel are making a difference in Central Virginia, from the United Way to the YMCA and the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation. Building community is just another way J.E. Jamerson will continue to help build Virginia's future, just as we have for over 50 years.
